Google Play content rating questionnaire: when you must redo it

Google Play content ratings use IARC. If your app content or features change, the questionnaire may need to change too.

Google Play content ratings are not optional metadata. They are powered by the International Age Rating Coalition and help users, parents, and regional authorities understand what is inside the app.

What you must do

Google says apps without a content rating are not allowed on Google Play. To receive a rating, you complete the rating questionnaire in Play Console with accurate information about the nature of your app content.

When to redo the questionnaire

  • You add user-generated content.
  • You add chat, web browsing, gambling, or mature themes.
  • Your ads become more mature than the primary app experience.
  • You change the app in a way that affects previous answers.

Why accuracy matters

Google says misrepresenting app content can result in removal or suspension. Treat the questionnaire as a release checklist item, not a formality at the end.

Source notes

Google's content ratings documentation explains IARC ratings, questionnaire requirements, update triggers, and enforcement risk.
